Staff Speicalist, Paediatrician and Paediatric Intensive Care Physician
Helen has trained and worked as a Paediatric Endocrinologist for over 25 years. She completed her medical and general paediatrics training in Perth, during which time she developed Type 1 diabetes, which focussed her interest on Paediatric Endocrine training. Initially she moved to Dublin, Ireland where she participated in Diabetes and Endocrine clinics across Dublin, whilst being a Lecturer in paediatrics at University College Dublin. Subsequently she moved to Sydney, completing her PhD in children’s bone and exercise, while doing her advanced training in Endocrinology at Children’s Hospital at Westmead. Since 2004 she has worked as a Paediatric Endocrinologist at Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick (where she continues 2 days/week) and Campbelltown Hospital in Sydney’s South West. In 2014, she commenced work at Royal North Shore Hospital, 2 days/week.
Particular clinical, advocacy and research areas of interest include Diabetes Transition, Diabetes and Schools, Continuous Glucose Monitoring and Monogenic Diabetes, as well as Bone and Mineral Diseases of Childhood, especially those related to chronic diseases as well as obesity and insulin resistance. Helen has been a council member for APEG for approximately 3 years, is the Chair of the APEG Diabetes Subcommittee, is a member of the APEG Research Grants Committee and the Bone and Mineral Working Group.
When not at work, Helen enjoys cooking, reading, walking her Cavoodle puppy and spoiling her rather put out cat! She is the parent of 2 teenagers.
